Hi everyone, it’s been a while! I’m so sorry that I completely neglected my blog over the last year. So much has happened!
I quit my corporate job in August 2019, and I’m now a freelance costumer/stitcher/specialty costume manufacturer/wardrobe stylist! I do a bunch of different jobs; but basically I either build costumes, or wardrobe style people on set. I absolutely love it, and I can’t imagine doing anything else. My skills have improved more in the last 6 months than they have in the last 4 years. I have met so many talented and wonderful people in this industry, and I have never before enjoyed this level of job satisfaction.
The only negative of sewing as my day job is that I don’t really have the energy to sew in the evenings any more. I’m still sewing on the weekends and my off days, but that tends to be more commissions than personal projects. And that’s ok! Cosplay is my hobby, and it’ll always be there when I do have the time/energy/excitement to make something new.
I felt like I finally had my life together, and then Covid-19 happened. California issued the “Safe at Home” order on March 20th, and all the costume shops closed. So I’m now unemployed. I’m doing ok–I have an awesome roommate, my sewing machine, and a massive fabric hoard.
But what does that mean for Saddle the Hippogriffs? Well, now I suddenly have A LOT of free time on my hands. I’m finishing up abandoned projects, starting new ones, and creating projects based on the supplies I have in-house. So come along on my sewing journey! I’m mostly posting progress pics in my Instagram Stories (@saddlethehippogriffs), but I’ll also post a few projects on here.
I hope you’re all doing ok in this uncertain world, and my heart goes out to anyone directly affected by this virus. ❤
